The coronavirus or COVID-19 crisis has impacted the clubs financially and Barcelona despite their riches have not been exempted from the financial crunch as seen by the club cutting the wages of the playing staff by a massive 80 percent.
This will affect their transfer business too as they will need to sell players in order to generate the necessary funds to buy players. Here, we look at five possible departures from the club in the summer.
1. Ousmane Dembele
Many were surprised when Barcelona splurged a reported €145million for Ousmane Dembele and it is safe to say that the move has not quite worked out as the Frenchman has struggled with injury and off-field issues during his time at the Nou Camp.
While the Catalan giants will not get nowhere close to the money that they bought him for, they could still expect a fee of around €60m if they sell him, which would be for the best in the current circumstances.
2. Philippe Coutino
Another big money signing that has not worked out for both player and the club, Philippe Coutinho has struggled to exert the same influence that he showed at Liverpool, with the Catalan giants even sending him out on loan to Bayern Munich.
The Bavarians for their part have confirmed that they have no intentions of signing the Brazilian on a permanent basis and while the likes of Chelsea and Manchester United have expressed interest, they will need to get him off their books soon in order to cut down costs.
3. Arturo Vidal
It still confuses a few as to why the club would want to sell Arturo Vidal, considering that the Chilean has been one of their better performers in the recent past.
4. Ivan Rakitic
Another top midfielder that has been deemed surplus to requirements at the Nou Camp has been Ivan Rakitic, with the Croatian being gradually phased out of the club.
Rakitic has been linked with Inter Milan and a potential return to former club, Sevilla which looks the most likely at the moment.
5. Nelson Semedo
Signed in 2017, Nelson Semedo has gone on to establish himself as a regular in the first-team and while the club don’t need to necessarily sell him, the player himself wants to move to Manchester City.
