Argentina boss Lionel Scaloni has acknowledged that Lionel Messi‘s partnership with Lautaro Martinez at FC Barcelona would be great for the national but specified that it will be tough for the Camp Nou board to lure him from Inter Milan.
Barcelona are reported to have decided on Martinez being the only replacement for Luis Suarez at Camp Nou, which would see him play with his national team captain Messi.
Meanwhile, Messi himself talked up Martinez’s transfer to Barcelona last week but was not keen on revealing whether a deal has already been stuck with his compatriot.
Martinez scored an impressive 16 goals in the Serie A before the season was brought to a halt due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Speaking to RTVE, as quoted by AS, Scaloni said: “Lautaro today is the fashionable striker, the one who every big team wants. He is already with a big team, which competes equally with other teams and it will be very difficult to get him out of there.”
Talking up a partnership with Lionel Messi at Barcelona, Scaloni added, “If Lautaro is lucky enough to go and play with a team-mate like Messi at Barcelona, for us, the more they play together, the better.”
Scaloni concluded, “Lautaro is a young player with an incredible future. He is strong and has a great desire to succeed. I don’t want to interfere, but if he does change clubs, I hope he does well.”
