Serie A outfit AS Roma are reportedly eyeing a move for FC Barcelona‘s 23-year-old versatile player, Junior Firpo, in the summer transfer window, according to a report in Sport [via CaughtOffside]. The Italian side are looking to strengthen the squad ahead of the next season and reportedly see Firpo as an option.
Barcelona have been linked with moves for a host of top players in the summer transfer window, but the Catalan outfit will have to sell a few players to make room for others. It has been reported that the club has transfer-listed Firpo for sale in the summer, with the price tag set at €25m.
Firpo joined Barcelona last summer but has not managed to live up to the expectations shouldered on him. As a result, the Catalans are willing to part ways with the promising young defender, who can also play higher up the pitch.
The former Real Betis star has managed to rack up 17 appearances this season but has had to play second-fiddle to Jordi Alba at Barcelona.
An exit appears to be a win-win situation for all involved, as Firpo will likely receive more playing time at Roma, while Barcelona will receive funds they could use to pursue signings in the summer.
