Bayern Munich have agreed in principle a five-year deal with Leroy Sane, but the Bundesliga giants are yet to agree a fee with Manchester City.

Sane hasn’t played a single minute of Premier League football in 2019/20 after suffering a knee injury in the Community Shield. But this hasn’t stopped the German from continuing to be linked with a move away from the Etihad – specifically, to Munich.

A source confirmed to 90min as far back as July 2019 that Sane was open to joining Bayern, after growing frustrated with a lack of consistent starts during the 2018/19 campaign. And despite his lack of football this season, 90min was told in January that the 24-year-old is still very keen for Bayern to agree a deal with City as soon as possible. Furthermore, the Sky Blues expect the deal to happen.

Sport Bild now say that Sane has agreed a five-year contract with Bayern, and the Bavarians have now turned their attention towards agreeing a fee with the Premier League champions. Die Roten have made an opening bid of €40m – a figure that is actually less than what City paid to bring the player to the club back in the summer of 2016.

Of course, it is worth noting that Sane has just over a year remaining on his current deal and, as a result, Bayern will look to drive down the price in negotiations. The report further adds that Bayern consider any deal under €60m for the winger to be a success.

The ever-trustworthy Fabrizio Romano has also provided an update on the current situation. In response to an Instagram post by Bleacher Report regarding the news that Sane and Bayern had agreed terms, Romano remarked that talks are ‘on’, but no agreement between the two clubs has yet been reached.

It is further added that Sane is still Die Roten’s top transfer target, and has been for the last ten months.
