Cristiano Ronaldo and Ronaldo Nazario are arguably two among the best footballers to have ever graced a football pitch. The Brazilian Ronaldo was a force to reckon during his peak years and would have scaled greater heights if not for the injuries that eventually proved to be the villain.
Meanwhile, Cristiano Ronaldo, who turned 35 earlier this year, is still going strong and is arguably one of the top players still kicking a ball in the professional football circuit. The Portuguese has proven to be a winner for Juventus, ever since switching to Old Lady from Real Madrid in 2018.
However, Serie A expert James Richardson has no doubt that Ronaldo Nazario was the best player. “I don’t think there should be any doubt about that Brazilian Ronaldo was the best player. He was something quite extraordinary and I think we forget that because of a lot of the issues that have happened since,” Richardson told Daily Star Sport.
“The off-field problems he had and the long, drawn out injuries he had. He had the attempts to keep going as a player and coming back. It was just heartbreaking stuff, but Ronaldo was extraordinary when he was coming through at Barcelona and then first season at Inter Milan,” he elaborated.
Richardson went on to state that Cristiano Ronaldo is a phenomenon, but picked the Brazilian over the Juventus forward. “I think Cristiano Ronaldo is a phenomenon as well, – and they’re very different. But for me it would be Ronaldo Nazario,” he stated.
No doubt, the Brazilian was indeed a giant during his best periods. Meanwhile, Cristiano Ronaldo continues to remain in the upper echelons of elite football, thanks to his consistency and longevity.
However, let’s make one thing clear: both are footballing greats. We have been blessed to watch them play and picking one over the other is down to personal preferences.
