David Beckham has reportedly begun negotiations to bring James Rodriguez to Inter Miami from his former club Real Madrid.

Beckham shares a strong rapport with Madrid president Florentino Perez, with the Blancos supremo having brought the former England captain to the Santiago Bernabeu as one of his ‘Galactico’ signings when securing his signature from Manchester United in 2003.

James, who has a market value of $33.5 million, is under contract until 2021 in Madrid, but has fallen out of favour under manager Zinedine Zidane. And Beckham’s Inter Miami are interested in acquiring Rodriguez’s services, according to Goal.

The playmaker’s 2019-20 season has been hindered by injuries but he has also slipped down the pecking order at the Bernabeu. With the LaLiga champions fearing they may lose the playmaker for nothing, Beckham has opened talks with them, despite no formal offers being made to either the club or player.

Despite his recent struggles for Real, Beckham considers Rodriguez – who top-scored at the 2014 World Cup – exactly the level of stardom that could catapult his new MLS side into the top tier of clubs in the division.

The Colombian has made just 13 appearances for Madrid this season since returning from his two-year Bayern Munich loan and has missed the majority of the campaign through injury. Miami have been linked with a host of big names coming to the end of their careers, notably Manchester City playmaker David Silva and Monaco’s Cesc Fabregas.
