Real Madrid star Gareth Bale has been named the richest sports star aged 30 or under in the Sunday Times’ Young Rich List. Bale was second in the Young Rich List last year, which is comprised of ‘the wealthiest people or families resident in the UK ranked by net wealth’.
Bale is also ranked third in the Rich List, behind Formula One world champions Lewis Hamilton, who is the richest sportsperson in the UK, and Rory McIlroy, who is the world No.1 in golf.
The Welshman may have been enduring a difficult period at Madrid, where he appears to have lost importance, but his fortune has soared up by a staggering £20m. The footballer is now worth £114m, and is £7m wealthier than Anthony Joshua, who comes second in the Young Rich List. Anthony Joshua is also the only player, who is not a footballer to feature in the top 10 in the list.
Meanwhile, Bale has been linked with an exit from the club in the summer, with reports indicating Newcastle United will likely sign the Wales international should the takeover go through. He has made only 14 appearances for Madrid in the league this season, and a move away seems to the best option he could opt for, as far as his footballing career is concerned.
