Portuguese skipper and Juventus star, Cristiano Ronaldo ‘has a plan to take over Pele’s record’ for scoring the most number of career goals and wants to become the greatest of all time, according to his former teammate Gary Neville.
Despite turning 35 in February earlier this year, Cristiano continues to be regarded as one of the best players in the world at the present, and the Portuguese has evolved his game over the years in his quest to become the ruthless goal-getter that he is now.
While speaking on Sky Sports, Neville heaped praise on Ronaldo’s drive to become the best in the world, and said he thinks Ronaldo has a plan to beat Pele’s numbers, when it comes to goals scored.
“His drive to become the best in the world was out of this world. He was one of the few players that I’ve played with that would publicly announce that individual trophies were important to him,” the former Manchester United defender told Sky Sports [via Goal].

Cristiano Ronaldo is known for his hard work, dedication and for the will to keep on improving. Neville admits what Ronaldo ‘has done over the years has been absolutely exceptional’. He said, “He (Ronaldo) just wanted to be the very best and what he’s done over the years has been absolutely exceptional. His achievements have been amazing and he’s worked hard for it.”
Neville added, “It’s an obsession with scoring goals and applying himself every day, being the fittest he can possibly be. I think he’s lifted his professionalism every single year and progressed,”
Neville, who had played with Ronaldo during the latter’s United years, went on to state that Ronaldo wants to become the greatest of all time, and take over Pele’s record. He concluded, “I think he has a plan to go on and take over Pele’s record. He wants to be the greatest of all time and that is his sole purpose. Understanding that along the way if he is the greatest of all time, the teams that he plays for will win trophies and be successful.”
Cristiano Ronaldo has had a hugely successful football career, and remains a very significant player for Italian giants Juventus at an age when others might have hung up their boots or waned.
