German legend, Lothar Matthaus has advised RB Leipzig defender, Dayot Upamecano to remain with his current club post the summer rather than make a move despite significant interest from a number of top European clubs.
The likes of Arsenal, Manchester United and Manchester City are all said to be very keen to land the defender in the summer following his impressive performances both in the Bundesliga and in Europe this season.
Matthaus who is a Ballon d’Or winner and made 150 appearances for Germany during a stellar playing career, believes that the 21-year-old would benefit from staying at Leipzig for another year or so.
Dayot Upamecano p90 in the Bundesliga this season:
67.7 total accurate passes
6.6 passes into the final third
2.2 tackles won
2 aerials won
He dribbles past an opposition more times p90 (1.36) than he gets dribbled past (0.83). 🔥 pic.twitter.com/ApBaVxyKsT

“I can see him playing for all the big clubs when he gets more experience. He’s a young player, highly rated, fast, has a good positional game and uses his body well for a 21-year-old. But a year or two in Leipzig would not hurt him. Leipzig are a top team – one of the last eight remaining in the Champions League,” he said as quoted by Evening Standard.
“I can still see one or two per cent where he can learn, but he’s a huge player and that’s why I’m not surprised that top clubs in Europe are after him.”
Upamecano, is in his fourth season with Leipzig and has so far made 104 appearances for the club, but is yet to be capped for France.
