Earlier, Mediangr.com.ng reported that the release of the 2020 WAEC results was made public by the head of the council’s national office, Patrick Areghan, in Lagos on Monday, November 2.

In his report, Areghan disclosed that out of the 1,538,445 registered candidates who wrote the exam, only 1,338,348 (that is, 86.99%) made up to five credits with or without Mathematics and English Language.

Recall that during the exams, Nigeria’s internet space was awash with news stories claiming some question papers were leaked.

However, WAEC in a press statement signed by Demianus G. Ojijeogu, the acting head of public affairs, on Thursday, August 20, explained the true story concerning the alleged leak.

According to WAEC, the media reports claiming WASSCE papers leaked were not true.

The examination council said its investigations revealed that some unscrupulous supervisors, and in some cases, candidates, snapped the question papers (while the examination was in progress) and forwarded to their outside collaborators who in turn, provided solutions to the questions which they sent to their subscribers via criminally-inclined websites, SMS and WhatsApp.
