Paris Saint-Germain superstar, Kylian Mbappe has been awarded the the French league’s top scorer this season, as the 21-year-old finished with more goals from open play than Monaco forward, Wissam Ben Yedder.
Both Mbappe and Ben Yedder had 18 goals to their name before the season was interrupted due to the coronavirus or COVID-19 pandemic, while the Ligue 1 was eventually cancelled last week despite 10 matches remaining.
Despite both Kylian Mbappe and Wissam Ben Yedder scoring 18 goals in Ligue 1 this season, Mbappe has been recognised as the season’s top scorer and awarded the Golden Boot as all of his goals came from open play, with 3 of Ben Yedder’s goals coming from penalties. pic.twitter.com/SlW1yZxqwk

PSG were declared champions of the league, while the authorities on Thursday made the decision to give the top goalscorer award to Mbappe who scored all of his goals from open play, while Ben Yedder netted 15 from open play and three from the penalty spot.
Meanwhile, Mbappe’s team-mate, Angel Di Maria finished as the season’s best creator with 14 assists and there is no doubt as to which club’s players will dominate the team of the season once it’s announced, considering that PSG dominated the season.
This is the second consecutive top goalscorer award that Mbappe has won, with the striker winning the honour last season after scoring 33 goals. It will be interesting to see where the Frenchman is plying his trade next season, considering that he has been heavily linked with Real Madrid over the past year or so.
