Manchester City are lining up a move for Lyon midfielder Houssem Aouar and plan to make contact with the Ligue 1 club in the next few weeks.
The 21-year-old has already played well over 100 games for his boyhood club and is considered to be one of the best prospects in Europe. This season, the starlet has racked up 37 appearances in all competitions and registered an impressive 16 goal involvements.
City’s interest was initially reported last month, and according to RMC (via Get French Football News) the Cityzens now stepped up their pursuit of the starlet.
The report states that the Manchester club plans to make contact with Lyon over a potential deal within the next few weeks – once the COVID-19 crisis has hopefully subsided. It is understood that Les Gones would not block Aouar’s departure but they expect to be paid a transfer fee of at least €50m (£43.8m).
The four-time Premier League champions are thought to be prioritising defensive reinforcements – with Kalidou Koulibaly and Dayot Upamecano both being tracked – but this relatively low asking price seems to have convinced them to seriously consider a move for the Frenchman as well.
City are not the only side interested in the exciting talent. Juventus are reportedly monitoring the situation and could be aided in any future negotiations by the good relationship that already exists between the two clubs at boardroom level.
The Old Lady’s interest in the player – along with Brescia star Sandro Tonali – has coincided with the end of their courting of Paul Pogba. Aouar himself admitted recently that he was ‘proud’ to be linked with the club. Paris-Saint Germain are another side said to be in the hunt with many top executives at the club keen on the move.
