Premier League side, Newcastle United have been in the news recently regarding a potential buy-out from Saudi Arabia led consortium with Mirror now reporting that American media mogul Henry Mauriss has been negotiating with current owner, Mike Ashley since last year.
The agreement with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman is coming under intense scrutiny, with human-rights issues an increasing worry for Premier League bosses, and that puts Californian Mauriss in the perfect position to succeed with a rival bid if no deal can be reached with the Saudis.
“He’s a charitable and honourable man – and is desperate to become Newcastle’s new owner. It’s a genuine bid. He’s a successful player in the media world in America and has a big interest in English football,” a source close to Mauriss said.
However, Newcastle fans would now be shocked to discovered that this bid is believed to have been brokered by Chris Ronnie, a disgraced close associate of Sports Direct boss and Toon owner Ashley. Ronnie who has had a long association with Ashley was jailed for four years back in December 2014 for a £1million fraud while head of now defunct sportswear company JJB Sports.
It may not come to that as it is understood that Ashley’s negotiations with Crown Prince bin Salman’s representatives have moved into the final stage and that it might just be a matter of time before the deal goes through.
