UEFA Considering 'Mini Tournament' to Finish Coronavirus-Hit Campaign With Final on August 29

​UEFA are reportedly considering playing a ‘mini-tournament’ in August to complete the current ​Champions League campaign with discussions continuing amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The coronavirus pandemic has put football and the entire sporting world on hold, leaving competitions such as the Champions League and Europa League in a state of limbo.

European football’s governing body, UEFA, is due to meet on April 23 for further discussions on how to complete the 2019/20 campaign. According to the ​Mirrorthey are determined to finish the current Champions League and Europa League campaigns instead of rendering them null and void.

It is believed UEFA officials are considering a mini-tournament that would be played in one venue – potentially in Istanbul, which is where the final was originally due to take place on May 30.


​Manchester City and ​Chelsea remain in the Champions League, while ​Manchester United and ​Wolves provide English representation in the Europa League.

UEFA are set to hold meetings with the 55 associations early next week, where plans for the resumption of domestic leagues will be discussed as the governing body plots a safe return for continental competition.

​Premier League clubs are still hopeful of resuming their campaign, with a meeting today to discuss their next move, and latest reports suggest that ​clubs want the season finished by June 30.

UEFA will also discuss a final decision on the women’s Euros which was due to take place next year in England, the under-21s and also the Nations League at their ExCo meeting via a video conference next Thursday.
