Issa Diop says he is paying no attention to transfer rumours linking with him with a move to Man Utd and Chelsea, and is focussed on breaking into the France squad with West Ham.
The Frenchman has been subject to various transfer rumours since joining the Hammers in the summer of 2018.
The 23-year-old responded to the chatter in an interview with French TV channel Europe 1, claiming he is ignoring what is regularly printed in the press.
“Honestly, I don’t really pay attention to it. I try and be the best footballer I can be. Beyond that, you know the media. It’s part of football. I’m just trying have the best season I can.”
Diop was identified as one of the most talented centre-backs to come through the French league in the last few years so it was a surprise when he opted to join West Ham with other bigger clubs also interested.
However, the former Toulouse man was keen to get regular game time in the Premier League where he was likely to start most games without potentially having the pressure that can come with playing for a big club.
Things haven’t turned out brilliantly for the defender as the Hammers are currently engaged in a tight relegation battle.
Now in his second season in east London, a change of scene could potentially be in the works – an opportunity to move up the footballing ladder.
“It didn’t stop Payet to be in the France team when he was at West Ham. The France national team, it’s a dream. It’s the top, top level, so you need to be very good at club level.”
This news will be welcomed by Hammers fans with the summer transfer window slowly approaching.
